Character vs. Characterization

Character is stuff like the choices made based on the situation. Is the stuff that the story is made of.

Characterization is the limp, the accent, the style of speech—things that won't change the quality of the story so much as the style of the storytelling. The actor and director come up with this stuff together, and is not necessarily part of the script, but can help to enhance or “originalify” the story.
